Have you ever tried to enjoy a bug free summer in Georgia without the use of chemicals? Farming aside, it can be difficult to even enjoy a relaxing time on a front porch without the go-to canned bugspray many of us grew up with.

This struggle is merely a fraction of the challenges our farmers face while running an organic farm in Georgia. But, lucky for us they are pros (literally and figuratively). Matt Fry takes us behind the scenes on how they make it work:

“Some people say we would starve to death if it wasn’t for pesticides and I just don’t believe that. I think that if you apply the right principles to farming, you can actually profit and yield just as much as you would on a conventional farm.”

Meal Ideas from this week’s Veggies

  • Even if your basket doesn’t have heirloom tomatoes, grab a few from Signal Mt. to make this simple salsa recipe. Or, if you want to get fancy, heirloom pizza?!
  • Pink eyed peas are limited, but amazing! Sauté them with onions and herbs and let the flavor shine!
  • Throw all your veggies in this Summer Farm Stand Bowl.
  • Add a twist to this mojito, by muddling some Roselle along with the mint!
